Xiaomi smartphone users are getting a new MIUI version today. MIUI 8 has been released as beta. As of writing this story, only the MIUI 8 beta download for the Chinese ROM is available. The download link for MIUI 8 beta for the global ROM is expected to be released any time today.
MIUI 8 brings support for dual apps, second space, scrolling screenshots, quick ball, video editing, Caller ID (India only) and SMS IDs (India). Improvements affect text selection/editing bar, gallery album management and photo editing interface.
The new Android based UI for Xiaomi smartphones includes an all-new Notes app with templates for sharing and an all-new Calculator with conversions and history editing.
The MIUI 8 China Developer ROM 6.7.7 is available now. You will get MIUI 8 OTA update notifications on your phone. Or you can click 'Updater' app to check for updates. Xiaomi reminds users to not to forget to backup data before upgrading.
MIUI 8 beta is compatible with Xiaomi Mi 2/2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4c, Mi 4S, Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi Note, Mi Note Pro, Redmi 1, Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2A, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S/3X, Redmi Note 3G, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3 MTK, Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm.
The release for the Xiaomi Mi 5 has been delayed. Release notes are available on the MIUI forum.
