Joining the squad, is Vibe K5 Plus, which is a sub Rs 10,000 4G smartphone. This phone seems to packs almost all the ingredients that consumers are looking in an value for money Android smartphone. Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus was first showcased at MWC 2016 and will compete against the recently launched Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, the previous Coolpad Note 3, Yu Yureka Plus among others.
We were present at the launch event and here is what we think about the new handset from the Chinese smartphone maker.
Design
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus is a compact smartphone, which sits comfortably in hands. The smartphone has rounded curves at the rear that makes it easy to hold and the handset will definitely please consumers who are not fond of large screen devices and are looking for smartphone fit for one hand operation.
However, if we talk about look and feel, there's nothing unique about the smartphone. During the launch presentation, Lenovo said that the smartphone is entirely made up of metal; however the quality of material used in the construction is very basic and feels plasticky. The similar priced Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 gives a more premium feel in hands than the Vibe K5 Plus. Moreover, Redmi Note 3 also offers a fingerprint sensor at the rear, which you will not find in the Vibe K5 Plus.
A good thing about the design is the fact that the rear panel is removable and houses a 2750mAh removable battery, a microSD card slot and a pair of SIM card slots.
Display
Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus flaunts a 5-inch full HD (1920x1080 pixels) display. During our brief usage, we found the display fairly responsive. The level of brightness was good and colours also looked punchy. We will test the display in direct sunlight while reviewing the smartphone.
Hardware
Lenovo has packed the Vibe K5 Plus with a Qualcomm's Snapdragon 616 64-bit octa-core processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. With whatever time we spent with the handset, it was pretty much smooth in running the basic tasks such as camera, dialer, notes, screen navigation, switching from one app to another, etc. We will stress test the samrtphone while reviewing the smartphone.
The smartphone has an internal storage of 16GB, which can be expandable by up to 128GB via microSD card. As far as the connectivity goes, the dual-SIM smartphone supports 4G LTE on both the SIM cards. Besides, all standard features are provided such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and OTG support.
Software
Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, with Lenovo's customisations on top. The UI has no app drawer and is like the previous Lenovo smartphones we have used. Some pre-installed applications include Shareit, Cloneit and Syncit for instantly transfer and restore the data from your previous Android smartphone.
Camera and Features
On the camera front, the smartphone has a 13MP rear camera with F2.2 aperture and a 5-piece lens system. The front has a 5MP F2.8 camera. We took some shots from the smartphone and the results were satisfactory. However it is because the lighting was quite adequate and we still need to see how camera performs in low-light conditions.
Besides, the smartphone comes with twin stereo speakers that are equipped with Dolby ATMOS audio. The smartphone also features TheaterMax technology, which allows you to pair up the smartphone with ANtVR virtual reality headset and converts the content such as videos and games into a large screen virtual screen experience.
Price and availability
Lenovo has priced the Vibe K5 Plus at Rs 8,499 and will be selling the handset exclusively on Flipkart in an open sale model from March 23, 12 PM.
